18-8 Stainless Steel

Hex lag screws are large wood screws. Although the term “lag bolt” is often used to describe this product, technically they are a screw since lags are installed in wood by rotating the six-sided head. To prevent splitting, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw. They may be mildly magnetic.

18-8 Stainless Steel

The number 18-8 refer to the percentages of chromium and nickel in the stainless steel Alloy. The 18 refers to the chromium content, which provides rust-resistance properties, and the 8 refers to the nickel content, which gives a silver-like shine and some rust-resistance. 18-8 is probably the most commonly used stainless steel.
