316 Stainless Steel ASTM F593E

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 18-8 or 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

The specification below for ASTM F593E covers the requirements for 316 series stainless steel bolts, hex cap screws, and studs 0.25 to 1.50 in., inclusive, in nominal diameter in a number of alloys in common use and intended for service applications requiring general corrosion resistance.
